Van Driver-Safety Around Water

Position Summary
The van driver will transport Safety Around Water lifeguards and swim instructors around Houston to SAW sites. This is a seasonal role for June, July and August. As a vehicle driver, the individual's top priority is safety. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.

Essential Functions

Drive vehicle safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.

Ensure safety of staff, making sure they are picked up and dropped off at appropriate locations.

Complete thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information.

Record gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms.

Clean out van each day.

Promote safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.

Ensure that van rules are announced and followed.

Communicate regularly with other staff members and supervisor.

Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

Follow mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.

Meet timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance, including but not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of time sheets.

Qualifications

Minimum one year work experience as a bus driver.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Possess appropriate class license.

Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (bus).

Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR and First Aid.

Desire and ability to work with children.

Previous experience with diverse populations.

Physical Demands

Ability to safely drive a van for long periods of time.

Ability to respond to emergency situations.

Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
