Pay: $17.00 - $18.15/hr based on experience

Onsite location: Mercy - Austintown Medical Center, Austintown, OH

We are searching for the next Patient Access Specialist champion. This role is responsible for performing admitting duties for all patients admitted for services at the hospital and for meeting mission goals and regulatory compliance requirements. The representative will work within the organization’s policies and processes.

Job Responsibilities

Assign accurate MRNs, complete medical necessity/compliance checks, provide patient instructions, collect insurance information, receive and process physician orders, and utilize an overlay tool while delivering excellent customer service measured by Press Ganey.

Operate the telephone switchboard to relay incoming, outgoing, and inter-office calls.

Adhere to policies and deliver compassionate customer service in all interactions.

Accountable for point-of-service goals as assigned.

Use quality auditing and reporting systems to correct accounts, conduct audits, and provide statistical data to leadership.

Pre-register patient accounts before visits, including inbound/outbound calling to collect demographic, insurance, and financial information, and collect point-of-service collections and past due balances with payment plan options.

Explain consent for treatment forms, obtain signatures, and distribute patient education documents such as Medicare/Tricare messages, consent forms, and other required paperwork.

Review insurance verification responses, select applicable insurance plan codes, and enter benefit data to support POS and billing processes for a clean claim rate.

Screen for medical necessity using Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) software to inform Medicare patients of potential non-payment, and distribute documentation and pamphlets as appropriate.

Experience

1+ years of customer service experience.

Inquisitive and open to innovation, including AI, to improve processes and patient experiences.

Minimum Education

High School Diploma or GED.

Certifications

CRCR certification required within 9 months of hire (company-paid).
