PHARMACIST - Per Diem

Assumes the day‑to‑day responsibilities of a staff pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medication in compliance with state and federal law and established organizational policies and procedures.

Duties/Responsibilities

Occasional supervision of pharmacy support staff during evenings and weekend shifts

Performs other duties as necessary as identified by the Director of Pharmacy.

Read and interpret physician’s orders.

Establish and maintain patient profiles in conjunction with the Pharmacy Technician; assess drug interactions on each patient as alerted by the computer.

Compound and dispense medications, follow physician’s orders and established procedures.

Weigh, measure and mix drugs, and other compounds and fill containers with correct quantity and composition.

Maintain legal and professional standards in operation according to New York State, Federal, and professional requirements. For example, record keeping drug storage and control, controlled substance inventory, and staff performance.

Respond to inquiries regarding drug information.

Maintain current, accurate knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their characteristics and contra‑indications, and available reference materials.

Dispense and label medication per legal and professional requirements.

Perform related record keeping accurately and in a timely manner.

Assist in preparation of clinical documents for review by the Director of Pharmacy.

Participate in length of stay rounds.

Perform sterile compounding in compliance with Joint Commission and USP 797/800.

Perform other related and legal duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy.

Position requires 1‑2 shifts worked per month.

Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific)

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle several tasks simultaneously.

Proficient in standard computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Professionalism appropriate for working with guests, clients, physicians, employees and volunteers.

Ability to understand hospital and departmental operations, policies and procedures and communicate to others as needed.

Education and Experience

Pharm.D. graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.

New York State license and registration in good standing.

Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

Working Conditions

Requires extended periods of sitting and using computers.

Ability to perform light lifting (up to 15 pounds) using proper body mechanics.

Occasionally requires assembling, using, checking and maintaining equipment.

Actively participates in cross‑training, Quality Improvement Plans, in‑service programs, and mandatory classes; completes department specific requirements/competencies. Accepts assignments to other departments as assigned.

Occasional handling of hazardous pharmaceuticals.

Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations.

Pay Range: $55.00-$70.00/hr

Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
