Job Summary
We are seeking a full-time, 40‑hour Medical Assistant to support the Medicaid Clinic located at 500 Merrimack Street, Lawrence, MA. The position requires direct interaction with patients and collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and performing general office duties such as answering phones and completing insurance forms.
Essential Functions
Assists junior Medical Assistants with day‑to‑day questions and responsibilities, participating in onboarding training.
Shows patients to examination rooms, prepares equipment, interviews patients to obtain medical information, and measures vital signs, weight, and height, recording the data in the patient’s medical record.
Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, providing educational materials.
Performs general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms while acting as a liaison with other departments.
Collects blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, logs them, and prepares them for testing; performs phlebotomy if competent.
Maintains inventory of immunizations and checks expiration dates.
Provides immunizations when applicable, requiring certification or at least three years of experience administering a vaccine under provider supervision.
Helps improve departmental quality initiatives, such as ensuring two patient identifiers and hand hygiene compliance.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting preferred.
Licenses and Credentials: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification preferred; Certified Medical Assistant (National Certification) preferred.
Experience: 1–2 years of direct Medical Assistant experience or comparable medical field work required.

Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
Shift: Day.
Employment Type: Regular.
Weekly Hours: 40.
