Introduction
The Department of Health Services (DHS), Southern Wisconsin Center (SWC) is recruiting for a Food Service Lead Worker. This position will work 5:45 am – 2:15 pm on a rotating schedule that includes every other Tuesday/Thursday OFF and alternating weekends OFF. This position will need to work until 5:00 pm occasionally.

Position Summary
The SWC food service staff serve quality foods for approximately 135 residents with complex modified diets, staff meals, special luncheons, and community integration with bulk meals. As the Food Service Lead Worker, you will work under the direction of the Food Service Manager and perform lead worker duties.

Duties

Assigning, prioritizing, monitoring, and leading the work of the food service staff.

Monitoring daily tray lines consisting of assembling meal trays and extra nourishments.

Ensuring all policies, procedures, and protocols are followed.

Assigning and monitoring ware wash.

Monitoring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.

Salary Information
The starting pay is $20.55 per hour (approximately $42,700 per year), plus excellent benefits. A 12‑month probationary period is required. This position is eligible for an additional $0.80 for hours worked between 6 pm to 6 am, and a weekend differential of $0.80 for hours worked between midnight Friday to midnight Sunday.

Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check. All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by SWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date. DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position. Select candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I‑9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E‑Verify employer nor a STEM‑OPT eligible employer.

Physical Requirements
This position has physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, sitting, kneeling, stooping, and standing on hard tile floors for extended periods of time. Applicants may be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements.

Qualifications

Experience performing daily operational duties in food service including maintaining food safety and sanitation.

Experience working as a lead worker in a food service operation (e.g., assigning work, reviewing work, training, overseeing work in the absence of a supervisor/manager).

Ability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekends, holidays, early morning or early evenings, and overtime as needed.

It’d be great if you also have one or more of the following:

Experience working with special diets and following tray tickets to prepare meal trays.

Experience performing mass food production in an institutional, educational, or professional setting that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Serv‑Safe certified.
