The Paint / Body Worker (Body Shop) position is responsible for finishing cabs and parts to Spartan’s quality standards, prior to painting.
Job Responsibilities
Perform presanding, body filler, roll prime, sanding, and metal finishing, as needed
Lead / perform lean events
Learn and retain skills and practices needed to complete duties in assigned area
Wear air or form fitting respirators for extended amounts of time
Work off ground-level, on ladders and lifts, as needed
Read and follow detailed operator instructions, as required by a particular area
Understand, and be able to articulate, the body shop and paint processes
Self-check work and inspect prior processes
Use basic hand, electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools, as required
Maintain a clean and safe work area
Initiate process improvements
Support 5S in work area
Communicate with manufacturing and other cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing, sales, etcetera) to resolve issues
Work in close proximity with customer, as needed
Solve complex problems with minimal assistance
Qualifications
Strong and consistent attention to detail
Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task
Team oriented
Basic computer skills are required
No critical shortcomings on last performance review
3 years of body shop experience
Strong knowledge of metail finishing
Working knowledge of application of fillers, including polyester fillers, putties, and primers
Demonstrate high quality body work
Able to:
Tolerate very high heat temperatures
Be exposed to high dust & chemicals
Work overtime on short notice
Willing to:
Improve self / area / company (including pursuing additional training, if needed)
Develop a working knowledge of Spartan’s systems (example: AS/400)
