Job Description
At‑Will Co‑curricular Volunteer Head and Assistant Coach
Expectations and Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include the planning and execution of all aspects of the Cross Country program. Key duties are:
Schedule practice sessions every weekday (Mon‑Fri), except for holidays and game days; avoid Sunday practice.
Ensure all school policy requirements are met—practice must conclude by 6:00 pm for middle schools and 6:30 pm for high schools on Wednesdays.
Cooperate with the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director or designated administrator on contest scheduling, parent meetings, and policy compliance.
Manage equipment and uniforms: inspection, inventory, distribution, and maintenance.
Assist in acquiring and maintaining the necessary coaching and CPR certifications.
Coordinate transportation arrangements and supervise students on buses and overnight lodging, ensuring safety protocols (Administrative Regulations 5341 & 5342).
Communicate schedules, eligibility criteria, and incident reporting procedures to participants and parents.
Handle complaints, grievances, code‑of‑conduct infractions, and academic eligibility issues consistently.
Preserve and enforce safety measures, including concussion protocols and emergency action plans.
Record attendance, maintain participation minimums, and compile rosters for start and end of season.
Participate in yearly coach meetings and submit evaluations for self‑review and for assisting assistant coaches.
Support fundraising, copyright compliance, and fund‑raising requirements per district policy.
Promote district values and maintain professional relationships with students, parents, staff, and the public.
Respond promptly to emergencies and report injuries through the NCSD Injury Reporting Form.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Organize, promote, and attend professional development seminars and meetings.
Prioritize objectives, exercise independent judgment, and apply district regulations.
Integrate resources, policies, and information on alignment, eligibility, conduct, and supervision.
Establish effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the public.
Communicate clearly with students, parents, and NCSD staff.
Represent NCSD #1 courteously, professionally, and safely.
Respond effectively to emergencies.
Safety
Lead a culture of safety and environmental protection following district protocols.
Review compliance safety films with participants annually.
Operate equipment safely and report unsafe conditions.
Inspect facilities and equipment for safety and concussion protocols.
Implement emergency action plans for intruder, lighting, temperature, and injury scenarios.
Educate participants on health safety requirements, including COVID‑19 protocols.
