The Program in Jewish Culture and Society at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign invites applications for an Instructor/Lecturer position to teach Hebrew and develop the Hebrew program. Additional ability to teach Hebrew literature, Israeli culture, Yiddish, or other relevant courses in Jewish Studies is preferred.

Responsibilities
Teach Hebrew language courses and develop the Hebrew program, including a proficiency-based two-year language sequence. Create and revise curriculum and materials. Train and supervise instructors with little or no previous teaching experience. Serve on departmental committees and contribute to program development.

Qualifications

Master’s degree (Instructor) or a Ph.D. (Lecturer) in Hebrew language, Hebrew literature, Second Language Acquisition, or related field.

Professional level proficiency in Hebrew and English.

Evidence of teaching effectiveness and ability to design proficiency-based language sequences.

Experience in teaching college-level language courses and curriculum development.

Ability to train and supervise instructors.

Appointment Information
100% full-time non-tenure track position, 9-month appointment. Salary $60,000. Teaching load 3:3. Expected start date August 16, 2026. Eligible for sponsorship for work authorization, except for a new H1B petition requiring a $100,000 fee. Work at the campus per University Workplace Flexibility policy.
