Position Overview
Altom Transport is seeking an experiencedChemical Tanker Driver Trainerto support the development of new and existing drivers. This is apart-time rolefocused on hands-on, real-world training—both in the truck and at customer locations.
You will play a critical role in ensuring drivers meet Altom’s safety standards, understand proper tanker operations, and represent the company professionally in the field.
Key Responsibilities
Train and mentor new CDL drivers onsafe tanker operations(chemical & petroleum)
Conductride-alongs and on-the-road evaluations
Instruct properloading/unloading procedures, including pumps, hoses, and valves
Reinforcehazmat handling, spill response, and PPE protocols
Ensure compliance withDOT, FMCSA, EPA, and customer-specific requirements
Evaluate driver readiness and provideclear pass/fail recommendations
Coach drivers ondefensive driving, situational awareness, and risk mitigation
Assist withrefresher trainingand remediation for current drivers when needed
Maintain accuratetraining documentation and evaluations
Communicate closely withSafety and Operations teams

Qualifications & Experience
Valid Class A CDL withX Endorsement (Hazmat & Tanker)
5+ years of chemical or liquid tanker experience(preferred for trainer role)
Strongsafety record and clean MVR
Priordriver training or mentorship experience strongly preferred
Deep understanding of:
Bulk liquid surge and handling
Chemical compatibility & safety procedures
Loading/unloading at plants and terminals
Strong communication and coaching ability (this is not just driving—it’s teaching)
Ability to evaluate drivers objectively and enforce standards
Compensation
Competitive hourly or daily training rate (based on experience)
Paid training time and travel (as applicable)
