Job Description
REPORTS TO:
Principal
SUPERVISES:
May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
PURPOSE:
To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage instructional time: prepare materials, start lessons quickly, maintain high student time‑on‑task.
Manage student behavior: establish rules and procedures for participation, talk, movement; monitor behavior; intervene promptly and consistently while respecting student dignity.
Instructional presentation: review prior materials, introduce objectives, speak clearly, use understandable concepts, provide examples, assign tasks, ask appropriate questions, maintain brisk pace, manage transitions, ensure assignment clarity, summarize main points.
Instructional monitoring of student performance: set clear standards and due dates, circulate during class work, use oral, written, and other products to check progress, ask questions clearly.
Instructional feedback: provide corrective feedback for in‑class work, prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work, affirm correct responses, probe after incorrect
o responses.
Facilitating instruction: create instructional plans aligned to school and system goals, use diagnostic data, maintain accurate records, align objectives, strategies, assessment and student needs, utilize resources.
Interacting within the educational environment: treat all students fairly, interact with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.
Perform non‑instructional duties: carry out assigned duties, follow laws, policies, rules, regulations, pursue professional development and show growth.
Additional functions: perform related work as required.
Minimum Training and Experience
Degree in education or related area qualifying for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Physical Requirements:
Ability to use various equipment, minimal force to lift/carry objects, consistent with Light Work.
Data Conception:
Ability to compare and judge data characteristics.
Interpersonal Communication:
Ability to speak and convey information, receive instructions.
Language Ability:
Ability to read various documents, prepare correspondence and reports.
Intelligence:
Apply logical thinking, define problems, interpret instructions.
Verbal Aptitude:
Deliver information, explain procedures, follow instructions, use technical language.
Numerical Aptitude:
Use mathematical formulas, perform calculations, apply statistics.
Form/Spatial Aptitude:
Inspect items for size and shape.
Motor Coordination:
Coordinate hands and eyes with office equipment.
Manual Dexterity:
Handle tools, basic coordination.
Color Discrimination:
Differentiate colors and shades.
Interpersonal Temperament:
Adapt to stress, emergency situations.
Physical Communication:
Talk and hear, use telephone.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Monitor safety and well‑being of students in inclusive activities.
Motivate students.
Maintain a clean and orderly environment.
Perform general clerical duties.
Maintain order and discipline.
Operate common office machines.
Maintain files and records.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required.
