Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS:
A four-year degree from an accredited institution with NC certification in assigned area of teaching.
REPORTS TO:
Principal
JOB GOAL:
To demonstrate leadership, to establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students, to know the content they teach, to facilitate learning for their students, and to reflect on their practice.
Roles and Responsibilities
Teachers demonstrate the value of lifelong learning and encourage their students to learn and grow by
Building leadership among staff and with administration to bring about consensus and shared ownership of the school's vision and purpose.
Making content engaging, relevant, and meaningful by aligning instruction with the Common Core, essential standards, and 21st‑century content including global awareness, financial, economic, business, entrepreneurial literacy, civic literacy, and health awareness.
Teaching revised core content that includes critical thinking, problem‑solving, and ICT literacy.
Facilitating instruction using a variety of methods appropriate for students, integrating and utilizing technology.
Assessing learning and helping students work in teams to develop leadership qualities.
Collaborating with families and significant adults, adapting teaching for students with special needs, and embracing fairness in the school community and the world.
Demonstrating ethical principles including honesty, integrity, fair treatment, and respect for others (Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct for NC Educators).
Serving as a team player and role model, demonstrating commitment to continuous quality improvement, and supporting core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, customer‑driven focus, and fairness.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
Have finger dexterity and be able to perform basic life tasks such as kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
