Overview
The ADUSA HVAC/R Technician - Apprentice is responsible for learning and developing the skills required to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on store HVAC systems, ice machines, and refrigeration equipment. Working under the guidance of an experienced technician and/or area supervisor, this role completes assigned work orders, maintains accurate service records in the maintenance tracking system (Service Channel), and participates in an after‑hours on‑call rotation with support from the designated mentor or supervisor.
Responsibilities
Assist an experienced technician or supervisor in completing assigned work orders and scheduled repairs.
Perform preventive maintenance on assigned HVAC/R and related equipment.
Complete and maintain preventive maintenance checklists and associated documentation.
Provide timely work status updates to maintenance leadership, operational teams, and customers.
Ability to stay calm and work under pressure while maintaining excellent customer service.
Conduct general maintenance tasks involving refrigeration systems, air conditioning, heating, and electrical components.
Track and document refrigerant usage in accordance with Brand standards and EPA requirements (after obtaining EPA certification).
Provide routine preventive maintenance services on racks, cases, and alarming/monitoring systems.
Update control set points for refrigeration systems and EMS controls as directed.
Assist with diagnosing and repairing refrigerant leaks, evaporators, coolers, freezers, heating systems, and air conditioning units.
Support electrical troubleshooting, including control wiring and system diagnostics.
Evaluate the mechanical operation of HVAC and refrigeration units to ensure proper performance.
Order repair parts and materials needed to complete assigned work orders.
Perform minor structural repairs on refrigeration and HVAC‑related components, including case doors, gaskets, latches, closures, and prep‑area drains.
Respond to service requests and participate in after‑hours and weekend emergency calls.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support business needs and uphold company values.
Requirements
Knowledge of refrigeration, heating, air conditioning, electrical systems, and plumbing.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver's license.
EPA Universal Certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
Ability to obtain state licensure (if applicable) within 2 years.
Ability to climb ladders and access rooftop equipment.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., and lift/move up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
Ability to respond to after‑hours and weekend emergency service calls.
Strong computer skills and ability to use maintenance management software.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to travel daily throughout the assigned region.
