Job Description
Secondary Education Teacher
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and maintain constant alertness.
Uphold Board policies, including the anti‑harassment program.
Work cooperatively with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.
Report for duty fifteen minutes before opening and remain fifteen minutes after closing.
Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated locations and times.
Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
Establish and maintain appropriate discipline in the classroom.
Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
Maintain accurate records as required by law, board policy, and regulation.
Evaluate student progress regularly in accordance with system procedures.
Seek assistance from specialists and make referrals when appropriate.
Protect students and safeguard all equipment, materials, and facilities.
Be available for education‑related conferences outside the instructional day as mutually agreed.
Assist in planning school activities, instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and instructional materials.
Participate in extracurricular activities as agreed upon.
Attend and participate regularly in faculty meetings.
Maintain a professional, cooperative relationship with parents and the community.
Promote good public relations for schools and the system.
Maintain and improve professional competence.
Perform other duties necessary for safe and effective operation when requested by the principal.
Qualifications
Comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
Hold an Alabama Professional Educator Certificate.
Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the assigned tasks.
Meet suitability criteria for employment as required by the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002‑457.
Board may accept alternatives to the above qualifications as appropriate.
Background Check Required
Upon offer of employment, submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the federal Bureau of Investigation.
Physical Demands
Frequently lift/move up to 20 pounds; occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds. Vision – close, distance, depth perception, focus adjustment. Frequent communication in English; frequent standing, walking, sitting, hand use, reaching, climbing, balancing, talking, hearing. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling.
Environmental Demands
Exposure to diseases, weather conditions, air‑conditioned or ventilated facilities, cleaning chemicals, moderate quiet with occasional noise.
Mental Functions
Frequently compare, analyze, communicate, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile; occasionally copy and negotiate.
Employment
Nine‑month contract (187 days) based on the board‑approved salary schedule.
Evaluation
Performance evaluated per Board’s policy on the evaluation of Professional Personnel.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
