Description:
The Custodian will clean and maintain a healthy school environment in the assigned building and grounds, performing general custodial and maintenance duties while following all safety requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Perform minor repairs including glass replacement, electrical repairs, wood and metal repairs, and painting.
Maintain an accurate inventory of custodial equipment, materials, and supplies and request materials when needed.
Maintain a clean, safe, and neat boiler room.
Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, or vacuuming.
Empty and clean waste receptacles, trash pails and pencil sharpeners.
Refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers and bathroom tissue in all building restrooms.
Check boiler room nightly.
Clean and maintain custodial equipment and materials.
Make adjustments or minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, or electrical systems.
Observe regulations for the proper storage and use of cleaning agents, chemicals, paint, and hazardous materials and maintain MSDS sheets as required by law.
Monitor building security and safety by locking doors after hours and checking the security system.
Receive, check, and store goods delivered to the building, including equipment, supplies, and cafeteria food products.
Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, or parking areas using snowplows, snow blowers, snow shovels, or spreading snow melting chemicals.
Mow or trim lawns or shrubbery, using mowers or power trimmers, and clear debris from grounds.
Clean and dispose of blood and other potentially infectious bodily fluids using universal precautions.
Conduct maintenance checks and notify managers of needed major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
Promote good safety practices and procedures.
Complete daily routine cleaning duties as assigned by the custodial supervisor or building principal.
Knowledge

Report to work on all scheduled days, including inclement weather and school closures.
Push, pull, lift, or carry supplies up to 57 pounds.
Climb ladders and stairs.
Walk 2–3 miles per day.
Repetitive hand motion such as waxing, mopping, sweeping.
Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
