Job Description
Primary Purpose:
The Bilingual Elementary Teacher is responsible for implementing the District’s instructional program and educational philosophy in the subject area or grade level designated in accordance with District goals, policies, and procedures.
Responsibilities
Conduct classes in accordance with staff assignment.
Demonstrate effective teaching practices:
Complete lesson plans with immediate and long‑range goals.
Develop lessons appropriately.
Use time effectively.
Choose appropriate materials and activities.
Present subject matter clearly and engagingly.
Collaborate with team members and librarian when appropriate.
Manage classroom environment:
Organize procedures for effective classroom management.
Arrange assigned area efficiently and appealingly.
Provide flexible individual and group activities.
Apply positive discipline techniques encouraging self‑control.
Maintain a positive, accepting attitude with students.
Cooperate with school personnel for student welfare:
Supervise students’ behavior and safety during all school activities.
Collaborate with counselors, administrators, parents, and staff to place students in effective educational settings.
Teach students about safety and emergency procedures.
Participate in special activities and programs for students and parents.
Initiate communications with parents:
Inform parents about student programs.
Notify parents of any issues.
Provide updates on student progress.
Coordinate with program directors.
Maintain records:
Accurately record student evaluations and progress.
Maintain attendance records per regulations.
Track materials, textbooks, and funds provided by the District.
Document parent contacts, conferences, disciplinary measures, and referrals.
Meet required record‑keeping formats and timelines.
Exemplify professionalism:
Collaborate willingly with staff and administrators.
Engage in self‑evaluation and professional growth.
Promote an understanding of District programs and policies.
Stay current in education through literature, workshops, conferences, professional organizations, and courses.
Adhere to the Texas Education Code of Ethics and District philosophy.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
Valid Texas teaching certificate for assigned grade levels.
Preferred:
One year experience in student teaching or approved internship.
Special Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of assigned subjects.
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
