Job Goal
To maintain the facility and grounds in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness, and safety so that full educational use of the facility may be made at all times.
Terms of Employment
Twelve‑month (240 day) contract. Pay 802 Grade 02, plus benefits. Non‑Exempt, FLSA.
Position: Full‑Time. Working hours: eight (8) hours per day, starting immediately.
Qualifications
High school diploma.
Meets all mandated health requirements.
Record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
Complies with drug‑free workplace rules.
Keeps current with technology and other workplace innovations that support job functions.
Self‑directed and able to learn required skills for the position.
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Checks daily to determine if a school activity requires preparation or clean‑up; communicates unresolved issues that arise during the shift to the head custodian and/or other supervisors.
Upholds board policies and follows administrative guidelines and procedures.
Promotes a professional image of the school district.
Monitors building conditions during working hours and reports suspicious or unsafe conditions promptly; maintains clear routes to fire exits.
Performs custodial duties: disinfects drinking fountains, removes trash, cleans floors, sanitizes toilet rooms, re‑supplies supplies, polishes furniture and woodwork, washes windows.
Handles unexpected situations such as ill children, spills, broken glass, injuries involving chemicals, solvents, blood, or body fluids; participates in occupational safety and health training programs.
Cleans, moves, and arranges furnishings, supplies, and equipment as directed; anticipates needs and replenishes supplies to avoid interruptions.
Assists with receipt of deliveries, unloading trucks, and storing supplies.
Complies with fire, health, and safety regulations; ensures custodial supplies are labeled and stored safely.
Documents injuries that require medical referral.
Maintains school grounds by picking up trash, removing graffiti, and clearing snow, ice, and debris along sidewalks and entrances.
Reports student discipline problems, vandalism, or related concerns to the head custodian or building principal; reports damaged or missing safety equipment.
Acts responsibly to protect district equipment and property, takes action during adverse weather, and responds to building emergencies.
Assists with unexpected circumstances or pressing district needs as directed.
Assists with building security, directs visitors, secures the building at the end of the workday.
Maintains safety, watches for conduct or incidents indicating a problem, and works with supervisors to manage risk factors.
Keeps current and shares knowledge about advances in equipment technology.
Promotes a positive image of the housekeeping department; wears appropriate work attire and maintains a neat appearance.
Respects personal privacy and maintains confidentiality of privileged information.
Participates in staff meetings and professional growth activities as directed.
Strives to develop rapport and serve as a positive role model.
Maintains a professional appearance.
Mental, Physical, and Working‑Condition Requirements
Requires sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, operating foot and hand controls, using a telephone, and writing. Occasionally must lift and/or move up to twenty or more pounds. Requires accurate perception of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, and handling of educational materials. Must work for the duration of the daily contracted time period with minimal unexcused absences.
