Responsibilities
ECS is seeking a Facilities Assessment Staff Associate to join our Florida Building Science + Infrastructure team in Fort Myers, FL. In this role you will support facilities assessment and due diligence consulting projects while developing foundational skills in performing property condition assessments (PCAs), technical analysis, and report preparation. You will work with experienced consultants and multidisciplinary teams to perform assessments, pre‑ and post‑construction surveys, accessibility assessments, and related services. This position provides hands‑on field experience and technical training while building a strong foundation in facilities assessment consulting.
Technical & Field Work
Perform property/facility condition assessments, facility needs assessments, pre‑ and post‑construction surveys, accessibility assessments, and other related services under the supervision of more senior staff.
Demonstrate basic understanding of buildings and building systems (MEP, FLS, etc.) and basic experience with data collection.
Perform property condition assessments under the supervision of more senior staff. Tasks may include document review, determining remaining useful life, cost estimates, etc.
Basic knowledge of ASTM standard E2018.
Perform pre‑ and post‑construction surveys. Tasks may include documenting target properties and reviewing or creating photo archives.
Perform Facility Condition Assessments (FCAs) under the supervision of more senior staff. Tasks may be associated with assessment management, data collection, inventory/database update, etc.
Project Management
Attend project meetings with senior staff and assist with resolution of technical and administrative problems.
Begin to learn how to manage project budgets, the need for change orders, prepare invoices, and assist with collection efforts. Proactively communicate with your supervisor about testing or budget concerns.
Demonstrate basic ability to prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines. Consult with your supervisor to help prioritize tasks on a daily basis.
Initiate project set‑up and implementation with supervision.
Assist with the preparation of proposals.
Client Interaction & Team Collaboration
Interact and collaborate with staff members on a variety of projects.
Interface with contractors and other site personnel on project sites.
Begin to learn about marketing and business development with a focus on building your client database and maintaining regular client contacts.
Documentation and Reporting
Possess acceptable basic technical writing skills regarding spelling, grammar, and professional content. Collaborate with more senior staff to produce reports and improve writing skills under supervisors and principal reviewers.
Develop an understanding of the relation of field observations, test results, and conclusions in reports. Prepare building science + infrastructure reports and perform analysis under the direction of senior staff.
Clearly document observations, perform internal and client provided document reviews, and prepare assessment reports.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture (NCARB), or a related field required.
0 years of related experience required.
Certifications may be required depending on the type of testing performed.
Knowledge & Skills
Basic knowledge of building science & infrastructure principles and applications.
Basic knowledge of building and materials codes and construction practices.
Basic knowledge of structural, architectural, and building systems, design, and/or analysis.
Excellent oral & written communication skills.
Dependable, self‑motivated, responsible, and detail‑oriented.
Ability to work effectively in teams, with clients, peers, and subordinates, as well as independently. Willing to take and follow detailed direction from superiors.
Limited project management and consulting skills.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, stand for extended periods, walk on uneven terrain, and perform work at heights.
Additional Requirements
Valid driver’s license required if driving for or on behalf of an ECS subsidiary.
