Special Education 1:1 Paraeducator Bus Duty
LOCATION:
Mountain View High School
REPORTS TO:
Building Principal/Transportation Supervisor
DEPARTMENT:
High School
Hours / Work Times
1.75 Hours Per Day (7:55 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. – 4:10 p.m.)
.91 Hours on Early-Release Days (7:55 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. and 1:05 p.m. – 1:10 p.m.)
190 Days Per Year (180 student days / 10 holidays)

Paraeducators Class II
Salary Placement:
New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the classification salary range. Employees with prior years of service of similar occupational experience may receive experience credit towards salary step placement.

Responsibilities
Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
Assume the role of bus assistant for Special Education students, riding the bus and assisting the driver on the regular home‑to‑school run and during emergencies and/or evacuations.
Assist the driver in loading and unloading wheelchair‑bound students on and off the bus, and maintain a positive climate for students during transport.
Act quickly and remain aware of surroundings to ensure student safety.
Complete daily individual student behavior management forms and submit them to the supervisor.
Implement and monitor student behavioral management plans in accordance with each student’s Individual Education Program (IEP).
Attend conferences with administrators, parents, and students when necessary.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
Demonstrated ability to work with and supervise students.
Previous experience working with behaviorally disabled students preferred.
Personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative, cooperativeness, and confidentiality.
Demonstrated competency in completing paperwork accurately.
Physical strength and ability to assist bus driver in loading and unloading wheelchair‑bound students and manage potentially aggressive student behavior.
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
