6 Hours Per Day (9:35 a.m. – 4:05 p.m. includes 30 minute unpaid lunch); 3.83 Hours on Early‑Release Days (9:35 a.m. – 1:55 p.m. includes 30 minute unpaid time)
Days Per Year:
190 (180 student days / 10 holidays)
This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected.
Paraeducator Employment Requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must meet one or more of the following:
Pass a score of 455 or higher on the Education Testing Service ParaPro Assessment (ETS test/PRAXIS)
Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
Earn 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
Complete a Paraeducator Apprenticeship Program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council
If you do not meet the required qualifications listed above, your name will be screened out from the list of qualified candidates.
Responsibilities
Under direction of the Special Education teacher or IEP manager, provide special education services and supports to students in elementary and/or secondary programs.
Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
Provide one‑to‑one and group instruction as directed by the teacher to meet IEP goals.
Assist in establishing and maintaining a learning environment as specified by course goals and curriculum outcomes.
Assess student progress, evaluate learning, and collect student performance data to ensure progress toward each student’s IEP goals.
Maintain accurate data on student progress.
Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal tests.
Implement behavioral management strategies using techniques outlined by the teacher.
Assist in organizing and preparing instructional materials.
Attend to students’ bathroom needs, including lifting and changing as necessary.
Feed students as necessary and handle body fluids.
Lift and/or position students as required.
Provide services as directed by related service providers (OT, PT, SLP).
Assist students with assistive technology and physical assist devices.
Attend training sessions to stay current on student needs.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Basic typing/keyboarding skills.
Previous experience working with students in academic areas and/or coursework in Special Education.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
Demonstrated ability to supervise students and work with a team.
Flexibility, initiative, and cooperativeness.
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Willingness to learn computer skills and assistive technology.
Ability to operate office equipment such as computer, typewriter, copier, and telephone.
Ability to perform under constant interruption.
Physical strength to manage potentially aggressive behavior.
Demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships with others.
