Qualifications
Valid PA certification in Special Education and identified content area, required; and content area certification preferred.
Ability to effectively present information and articulate responses to questions.
Knowledge of curriculum relevant to grade level and student functional level.
Knowledge of Alternate Eligible Content.
Working knowledge of curriculum modifications.
Strong understanding of pre‑vocational skills curriculum and Community‑Based Instruction.
Knowledge of processes related to the billing of related services with relationship to ACCESS billing.
Excellent organization skills, initiative, and an ability to work with limited supervision.
Self‑motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative, and responsible.
Ability and experience working as a member of a team.
Skilled in the use of G‑Suite, Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, and willingness to experiment and work with new technologies.
Ability to interpret, implement and use assistive technology in both curricular and functional activities, e.g., Big Mac switch, DynaVox, iPad.
Working knowledge of specialized equipment, e.g., wheelchairs, Hoyer lift, Cindy lift standers, wedges, floor mats, walkers, modified feeding instruments.
Working knowledge of food preparation using thicket, grinding, etc. and feeding techniques.
Ability to attend to students personal needs related to toileting, feeding, and personal hygiene.
Knowledge of basic sign language preferred.
Working knowledge of universal precautions.

Accountability Objective
This position is responsible for planning and implementing instructional services for students receiving special education services through Life Skills support. The teacher is expected to develop and build upon foundational skills, maximize student strengths, identify areas of interest, reinforce expected behaviors and intervene to change unexpected behaviors, plan and participate in inclusive activities, and plan instruction and activities that are a results‑driven process focusing on improving the academic and functional achievement of eligible students. Students are provided with the necessary skills to perform Activities of Daily Living.
Performance Accountabilities
Models and exemplifies the district's core values.
Develops and writes re‑evaluation reports based on the results of assessments, data collection, and review of records.
Develops and delivers an appropriate IEP for students.
Implements all specially designed instruction (SDIs) and modifications for students with a learning disability on caseload.
Plans and prepares daily lessons based on formative assessment data and follows the prescribed curriculum and IEP.
Develops assessments that accurately reflect what a student should know, understand, and be able to do; provides feedback to the student, parents, and administration in a timely manner.
Evaluates students' academic performance, behavior, and social progress toward their IEP goals through data collection, student work, and observation.
Develops and implements plans to instruct in activities of daily living, including toileting and feeding.
Prepares progress reports, report cards, and other state/district mandated paperwork/forms within established timelines.
Maintains accurate special education paperwork, data, and student records in compliance with federal and state regulations and district guidelines.
Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a positive, safe, and optimal learning environment that maximizes instructional time.
Monitors students in a variety of educational environments for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Collaborates and communicates with parents, education personnel, and other service providers to develop and implement IEPs designed to increase student learning through specially designed instruction and accommodations for students' needs.
Demonstrates an understanding of the curriculum, including pre‑vocational instruction, and makes adaptations and modifications to meet individual needs.
Maintains a professional demeanor at all times, following all district policies, building procedures, and Pennsylvania professional code of conduct.
Participates in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of growing as a professional educator.
Works collaboratively with co‑workers, including the proper management of support staff within the classroom.
Performs other duties as assigned by Building Principal and/or Supervisor for Special Education.

Sitting for extended periods; lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling 35 pounds; ability to kneel, crouch, bend and reach to retrieve and handle materials and supplies; moving fingers and hands in a repetitive manner; ability to speak clearly and distinctly when communicating; ability to cognitively understand and process written and verbal directions, organize tasks, and make appropriate decisions; hearing clearly; adequate vision.
