Student – Niles Student Service Center Assistant

Southwestern Michigan College, Dowagiac, MI, United States

Please see Special Instructions for more details.

There are two types of student employment at SMC: Federal Work-Study (FWS) and Regular Student Employment (RSE). All students should apply for any position they are interested in, whether or not they have received a Federal Work-Study award. The SMC Financial Aid Office will determine if the student hired is eligible for FWS but being eligible is not a requirement for most jobs. If a student has received a FWS award, it is not a guarantee of employment and the award amount will not be paid towards the student’s tuition/account. It is a maximum amount that the student may earn over the course of the academic year, if they secure a qualified student employment position. Both Regular Student employees and FWS employees receive an hourly rate equivalent to at least the current minimum wage. The student receives funds in the form of wages on a bi‑weekly schedule. The FWS or RSE earnings may be used to assist with a student’s various expenses. If a FWS student earns their maximum award, the hiring department will determine if employment can continue as Regular Student Employment since funds are limited. Students interested in working on campus must be registered, have a complete financial aid file, and complete an online Student Employment Application.
