Olin Winchester, LLC ("Winchester"), considered one of the world’s leading ammunition manufacturers, is seeking a Chemist Technician for the US Army’s premier small caliber manufacturing facility, located in Independence, MO.
We are seeking a detail-oriented Chemist Technician with expertise in chemical and metallurgical analysis, skilled in advanced laboratory instrumentation and ASTM testing methods, with a proven ability to ensure quality, safety, and compliance in ammunition manufacturing processes.
Essential Job Functions
Perform qualitative and quantitative chemical and metallurgical analyses, including wet chemistry and advanced instrumentation (HPLC, GC, FTIR, ICP, IC, UV/Vis, TGA, DSC).
Prepare and analyze metallurgical samples following ASTM methods for hardness, grain size, plating thickness, tensile strength, and other properties.
Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments, perform quality control checks, and ensure compliance with safety protocols, including hazardous material handling and disposal.
Document experiments, maintain laboratory records and procedures, and manage chemical and supply inventory.
Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and team members to improve laboratory efficiency, accuracy, and processes.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree in metallurgical, chemistry, or chemical technology preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on testing experience in a chemical or metallurgical laboratory, including proficiency with laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
Experience with a Scanning Electron Microscope/EDAX preferred.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to safety, with proven ability to communicate effectively and collaborate in team environments.
Location-Specific Requirements
Must have a valid US Driver’s License.
Position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and employment will be contingent upon the candidate’s ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls if required.
Successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies.
