Job Description
To instruct all students in the fundamental skills and knowledge of the sport or activity and provide an atmosphere for successful individual development through monitoring, evaluating, and reinforcing.
Job Functions
Develop drill and practice activities that teach and enhance individual/team skill development for the game.
Develop and maintain an inventory list of equipment.
Prepare and implement a schedule for checking out, maintaining, and checking in equipment.
Plan and enforce appropriate safety and health rules and regulations.
Develop a supervision plan ensuring the safety and welfare of students at all times.
Maintain confidentiality about students and others.
Present a professional appearance.
Communicate effectively with all audiences – players, parents, supervisors, peers, and spectators.
Receive, understand, and follow directions.
Model and demonstrate activities and equipment used to develop basic skills or physical condition.
Observe, diagnose, and prescribe appropriate remediation activities during practice and game.
Apply developmental stages of each point of the game to the needs and ability levels of the team/players.
Assimilate innovations and adapt to changes when applicable.
Support the philosophies of Campbell County School District and Campbell County High School or Wright Junior / Senior High School activities.
Supervise students on out-of-town activities, which may involve overnight stays.
Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Mental Ability
Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries course.
Fundamental knowledge of the sport.
Ability to select from a variety of instruction methods to teach activity objectives.
Education, License, Certification, or Formal Training
Possess all certificates required for the State of Wyoming.
Possess current CPR certification.
Possess current First Aid certification.
Physical Demands
Occupationally exposed to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials based on task and procedures required.
Sports Specific:
Basketball
– Ability to coach at a high intensity level during practices and games; move quickly between drills; remove an injured player.
Tennis
– Run drills for up to 1‑2 hours without fatiguing; demonstrate strokes and skills for long periods; feed balls continuously; hear and be heard outdoors up to 50 yards.
Track/Cross Country
– Hear and be heard up to 120 meters; demonstrate agility drills and stretching exercises.
Wrestling
– Direct activities (coaching) for up to 14 hours; demonstrate wrestling techniques.
Swimming
– Stand on hard surface for up to 3 hours; be audible up to 50 yards; perform water rescue (deep or shallow).
Golf
– Demonstrate fundamentals of the golf swing.
Soccer
– Run drills for up to 1‑2 hours without fatiguing; coach in various weather conditions.
Gymnastics
– Maintain visual contact; stand on feet up to 3 hours; help injured participants; adequate strength; spot skills; adjust equipment; handling mats and spring boards.
Volleyball
– Toss balls to specific spot; demonstrate and describe skills; analyze skills; run drills for up to 1‑2 hours.
Football
– Remove an injured player; run drills for up to 1‑2 hours; hear and be heard outdoors up to 50 yards.
Environmental Demands
Coaching in a variety of temperatures for basketball and volleyball.
Outdoor exposure to sun, wind, cold for tennis, golf, soccer, and other sports.
Exposure to fall/spring conditions, hot/cold, snow, wind, and sun for track/cross country.
High temperatures for prolonged periods for wrestling.
80°F and high humidity for 3+ hours for swimming.
Tolerate noise, loud music, chalk dust, and close proximity of equipment for gymnastics.
