Job Description
Job Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly school environment that supports student learning and staff effectiveness. This position ensures that all areas of Pierson Middle School are properly cleaned, maintained, and prepared for daily operations and school events.
Essential Job Functions
Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, locker rooms, and common areas on a daily basis
Sweep, mop, vacuum, and wax floors; shampoo carpets as needed
Empty trash and recycling and replace liners
Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces to maintain a healthy environment
Set up and take down equipment for school events, activities, and meetings
Maintain and restock custodial supplies and notify supervisor when inventory is low
Perform minor maintenance tasks (e.g., replacing light bulbs, basic repairs)
Assist with seasonal tasks such as snow removal and grounds upkeep as assigned
Monitor building security, including locking/unlocking doors and reporting concerns
Follow all safety procedures and proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment
Respond to immediate cleaning needs such as spills or accidents
Work collaboratively with staff to support school operations
Additional Duties
Assist with summer deep cleaning and building preparation
Support district-wide initiatives related to safety, cleanliness, and facility improvement
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Custodian or Principal
