Who We Are:
The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Dual Language 1st Grade Teacher (Spanish/English) within the District for the 2026-2027 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state-of-the-art buildings in west-central Ohio. As a Dual Language Teacher you are required to:
Valid teaching license issued by the Ohio Department of Education that allows for teaching K-3
TESOL certified or currently enrolled in a certification program
Must be fully bilingual and biliterate (Spanish/English), demonstrated through achieving an "Advanced Mid" level of proficiency in a candidate's L2 and a "Superior" level of proficiency in their L1 on the ACTFL Proficiency Scale via the OPI exam
Sensitivity to the developmental stages of children, sensitivity to second language development/acquisition and cultural awareness
Openness towards parent communication
Experience with technology in facilitating instruction
Willingness to be flexible in terms of teaching assignment within the school district
Preferred Qualifications:
1-3 years teaching experience
Experience with English Language Learners
Bilingual (Spanish and English)
Experience with Dual Language instruction
As a Dual Language Teacher you will:
Establish lesson plans and implement curriculum based on Ohio's Proficiency Standards
Provide effective instruction to students in developing English and Spanish proficiency in the four communication domains of listening, speaking, reading and writing
Demonstrate flexible teaching: immersion/push-in, whole-group, small group, individual student, collaborative teaching, etc.
Monitor progress in Spanish and English (reading, writing, listening and speaking), content-area classwork, attendance, and general school behavior
Participates in the assessments of language proficiency tests for students
Prepare and maintain documentation required for state documentation for students
Show knowledge of a wide range of academic scaffolds and accommodations and use of those within the content-area and ESOL classroom
Promote collaboration and team-building. Builds rapport with staff and community
Assess the accomplishments of the Dual Language students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
Knowledge of the RTI process and seeks support of appropriate specialists when need arises
Provide support to students with disabilities
Meet with, facilitate, and document communication with parents
Provide technical assistance and generalized support to content-area teachers regarding dual language
Be a champion for the Dual Language students
Attend all staff meetings, team meetings, trainings and professional development as required
Implement district approved curricular resources, electronic/print, in the teaching and assessment activities of the classes and with individual students
Ability to diagnose, prescribe and analyze student data
Ability to implement effective classroom management strategies
Attend professional development opportunities as defined by the department, building and district
Perform other duties as assigned
What We Offer
As a contracted employee, 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day.
Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increases with experience and education.
Contracted employees receive competitive benefits. All employees receive professional development.
The Springfield Education Association and the Board of Education are currently working on a new professional agreement. While that is in the works, please refer to the current agreement as to pay and benefits that are in place for the 2025-26 school year.
