Job Description
We are seeking a Dual Language 1st Grade Teacher (Spanish/English) within the Springfield City School District for the 2026‑2027 school year. The District is a nationally ranked Division I district serving approximately 7,500 students from Pre‑K through grade 12, with 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings in west‑central Ohio. The District values diversity and aims to foster social and emotional growth through academic and extracurricular opportunities, including a 1:1 initiative and a digital learning lab offering 3‑D printing, graphic design, and videography.
Qualifications
Valid teaching license issued by the Ohio Department of Education for K‑3
TESOL certified or currently enrolled in a certification program
Fully bilingual and biliterate (Spanish/English) with at least “Advanced Mid” proficiency in Spanish and “Superior” proficiency in English on the ACTFL Scale via OPI exam
Outstanding personal/interpersonal skills
Sensitivity to child development stages, second‑language acquisition, and cultural awareness
Openness towards parent communication
Experience using technology to facilitate instruction
Willingness to be flexible in teaching assignments within the District
Preferred Qualifications
1‑3 years of teaching experience
Experience with English Language Learners
Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English
Experience with Dual Language instruction
Responsibilities
Establish lesson plans and implement curriculum based on Ohio’s Proficiency Standards
Provide effective instruction to students in developing English and Spanish proficiency across listening, speaking, reading, and writing
Demonstrate flexible teaching models such as immersion, push‑in, whole‑group, small‑group, individual, and collaborative instruction
Monitor progress in Spanish and English, content‑area classwork, attendance, and general school behavior
Participate in assessments of language proficiency tests for students
Prepare and maintain documentation required for state reporting on student progress
Use a wide range of academic scaffolds and accommodations for content‑area and ESOL classrooms
Promote collaboration and team‑building, building rapport with staff and community
Assess Dual Language students’ accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports
Know the RTI process and seek support from specialists when needed
Provide support to students with disabilities
Facilitate and document communication with parents
Offer technical assistance and general support to content‑area teachers regarding Dual Language integration
Champion Dual Language students
Attend all staff meetings, team meetings, trainings, and professional development as required
Implement district‑approved curricular resources, electronic and print, in teaching and assessment activities
Diagnose, prescribe, and analyze student data
Implement effective classroom management strategies
Participate in professional development opportunities defined by the department, building, and District
Perform other duties as assigned
What We Offer
Contracted employment: 183 days per year, 7.25 hours per day
Starting salary in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increasing with experience and education
