Purpose Statement:
The job of Head Coach is to design and implement the athletic program for assigned sport(s) in accordance with applicable rules and regulations; supervise other coaching personnel and students; use sound instructional techniques; serve as a positive role model; and liaise with the school, community, and other organizations.
Responsibilities
Assess student athletes and provide feedback on performance and team placement.
Attend meetings, workshops, and conferences to receive and convey information related to the role.
Conduct supporting activities such as parent orientations, recognition events, and banquets.
Develop team and individual practice regimes to enhance performance.
Develop game strategies and plans by analyzing opponents and athletes.
Guide and mentor other coaching personnel on instructional techniques and practice organization.
Identify program needs and recommend expenditures for equipment, supplies, and activities.
Implement practice schedules and related events to ensure efficient operations.
Instruct student athletes to promote growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Maintain records of game statistics, insurance, permission forms, schedules, and inventories.
Monitor student athletes’ academic eligibility and provide intervention when needed.
Oversee assistant coaches, student managers, and volunteers to provide direction.
Promote the athletic program through clinics and community meetings.
Respond to inquiries from students, parents, school personnel, media, and college representatives.
Keep the athletic director informed of issues impacting the program.
Provide supervision for all athletes and students involved in the program.
Explain and discuss the PVUSD Athletic Code of Conduct with all athletes.
Maintain high standards of personal conduct and serve as a role model.
Ensure all coaches, paid or volunteer, are cleared through PVUSD Human Resources.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Adapt to changing work priorities; administer first aid; apply laws, codes, policies, and regulations; coordinate activities with other schools and agencies; organize and communicate information; oversee financial transactions.
Understand community support organizations, public relations, equipment, injury prevention protocols, eligibility guidelines, and safety practices.
Communicate with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds; handle interruptions; exhibit leadership; maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines; model sportsmanship; motivate athletes; enforce consistent discipline; provide direction and team building; travel to off-campus events; work extended hours including evenings and weekends.
Experience : Job-related experience is required.
Education : High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Certifications :
Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate or
Valid Arizona Substitute Certificate or
NFHS Level 2 Certificate (National Federation of State High Schools)
Clearances :
Criminal Background Clearance
IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
