Job Description
Fluvanna County Public Schools seeks to hire a licensed Earth & Space Science teacher for the 2026‑27 school year. Preferred candidates hold or are eligible for a Virginia Teaching license with endorsement in Earth & Space Science.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructs students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
Prepares course objectives and outlines for the course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of the state and school.
Assigns lessons and corrects homework.
Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents.
Keeps attendance records.
Maintains discipline in the classroom.
Meets with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
Performs related duties such as sponsoring activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting course of study, and counseling students in adjustment and academic problems.
Complies with school and school board policies and regulations.
Demonstrates professional growth.
Prompt and accurate with required records and reports.
Uses instructional and planning time effectively.
Assumes responsibility for care of materials, equipment, and facilities.
Ensures a neat, safe environment for students.
Demonstrates knowledge of the subject being taught.
Uses out‑of‑class assignments, when appropriate, to support the instructional objectives.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Virginia Teaching license with endorsement in Earth & Space Science.
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university; certification in the area of teaching field.
Good health with no disqualifying physical or emotional handicaps.
Previous teaching experience with an acceptable rating is preferred.
SKILLS
Language: command of Standard English, both spoken and written.
Mathematical: ability to calculate figures and apply basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning: ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work inside and outside the school, may involve noise, temperature variations, and corrective equipment. Stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as required. May lift and move up to 50 pounds and push objects of similar weight. Specific vision abilities required: distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
10‑month contract. Full‑time, exempt FLSA. Position type: Full‑time. Salary scale as per Teacher Salary Scale. Reports to Principal.
