
Technologist II, Laboratory Generalist - Laboratory - Vineland

MAJOR FUNCTION
Performs testing and quality control procedures as a generalist in all operational departments relevant to the site and shift of hire. Ensure operation of laboratory instrumentation by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; troubleshooting malfunctions; evaluating new equipment and techniques. Perform, evaluate, and record quality control and institute corrective action as appropriate. Take part in proficiency sample testing, when appropriate. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Perform any other duties necessary to run an efficient and effective laboratory. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Must be able to work independently.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related field OR
For HEW/HHS - High school graduate or equivalent with 50-week military training as Medical Lab Specialist OR Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory or Clinical Laboratory training program.
1 to 3 years clinical laboratory experience preferred.
For HEW/HHS- 15 years clinical laboratory experience required.
Certification
ASCP, MLS or equivalent level eligible at date of hire required.
HEW/HHS certification required as a technologist under the revised Medicare/CLIA '67 regulations (42 CFR 493.1433) published on March 14, 1990 (55 FR 9538).

Lifting 20-50lbs – occasionally (80%)
Lifting >50lbs – never
Standing, Sitting, Climbing – occasionally
Carrying – frequently
Pushing – occasionally
Environment: Noise – occasionally; Varied Temperatures – frequently; Cleaning Agents – frequently; Noxious odors – frequently; Patient Exposure – frequently; Operative Equipment – frequently;
