Job Description
The Registered Nurse provides safe therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way, integrating differences into the provision of care. The nurse integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum, including patient and family education. The nurse relies on education and training to complete responsibilities within the scope of licensure as a registered nurse.
Responsibilities
Patient psychosocial/physiologic assessments that integrate changing data are performed at all times.
A plan of care based on trends of similar patients, including patient education and discharge planning, is formulated; tailor and prioritize caring practice to individual needs, including cultural, ethical, and spiritual needs at all times.
Active participation in the planning of routine transitional health‑care needs (e.g., treatment options, patient placement options, end of life options) is provided at all times.
Respond immediately to changes in patient’s needs with holistic care using independent clinical judgment based on knowledge drawn from education and experience.
Adapt planned educational programs and information to individual patients and families by modifying teaching strategies or content, integrating education during the delivery of patient care and collaborating with patients/families to identify realistic desired outcomes.
Ensure efficiency in the delivery of care; determine immediate priorities and offer solutions for problems as needed.
Actively advocate for patient rights and identify potential conflict counsel for resolution of conflict as necessary.
Identify variances from expected outcomes and revise the plan of care based on patient outcomes as necessary.
Accurately document all patient care activities per documentation standards; assist the healthcare team with the documentation process as needed.
Coordination of Care
Communicate and collaborate with health‑care team members, patients, and families consistently to maximize patient outcomes at all times.
Delegate patient care activities appropriately to other health‑care team members and participate in making and revising staff assignments to achieve maximum productivity as needed.
Unit Initiatives and Leadership
Maintain knowledge regarding unit initiatives, incorporating outcomes of team/committee work into practice.
Participate actively on unit teams, work groups, or committees as requested; anticipate needs and assist others voluntarily.
Serve as a clinical resource to health‑care team members, mentor and preceptor, display leadership behaviors, and provide direction and guidance regarding practice as needed.
Quality Improvement
Participate actively in quality improvement initiatives by utilizing standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery.
Incorporate evidence‑based practice and research findings into nursing practice to enhance outcomes at all times.
Other Duties
Complete other duties as assigned.
Participate on committees as needed.
Act as a backup for others in the department as needed.
Qualifications
Graduate of accredited school of nursing
Proficient in the English language, verbal and written communication skills, computer skills
Current Louisiana State license as RN; BLS Certification; ACLS and PALS must be obtained within 6 months of hire date
