Job Description
We have an opening for an Access Control Security Specialist within the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF) Operations Section of the Special Security Office (SSO). This role is the primary point of contact and provides complex, dynamic security support to the Strategic Intelligence Partnership Program (SIPP) and activities within the Field Intelligence Element (FIE). The position requires full‑time on‑site presence and reports to the SCIF Operations Section Leader within the Global Security Principal Directorate.
You will
Serve as the primary contact for SCIF access control activities, ensuring visitors, staff, and uncleared personnel are properly vetted, processed, badged, and escorted.
Coordinate daily lobby and visitor control activities, maintaining accurate documentation, visit certifications, access rosters, and badging records.
Resolve routine access control and visitor processing issues while escalating non‑routine matters.
Provide procedural guidance on access control, visit processing, badging, and escort requirements.
Support SCIF operations by maintaining logs, records, notifications, and other administrative documentation.
Provide backup support to SCIF Operations and assist with Personnel Security and Information Security as assigned.
Coordinate with internal and external contacts to deconflict scheduling, visitor, badging, and access matters.
Maintain effective relationships and provide responsive customer service while handling sensitive information with discretion.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional job responsibilities, at the J14.2 level
Provide professional security support for SCIF operations, integrating access control with personnel, physical, and information security.
Review and evaluate SCIF operational activities and documentation to identify concerns, recommend actions, and ensure compliance.
Develop, update, and maintain local procedures, job aids, checklists, and documentation supporting access control and SCIF operations.
Support self‑assessments, audits, inspections, and compliance reviews; track corrective actions and implement improvements.
Deliver security awareness information, procedural briefings, and training related to SCIF access and visitor control.
Provide cross‑functional support to SCIF Operations, Personnel Security, and Information Security.
Qualifications
Active DOE Q‑level clearance or Top‑Secret clearance with SCI access at hire.
Bachelor’s degree in Security Management or related field, or equivalent education/experience.
Knowledge of professional security principles, administrative practices, and regulatory requirements for access control, visitor control, and classified environments.
Experience supporting security, access control, badging, and visitor processing operations.
Experience coordinating day‑to‑day security activities and resolving routine issues.
Customer service skills, strong communication, and ability to coordinate with stakeholders.
Discretion and mature judgment for handling sensitive matters.
Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Office; preparing reports, rosters, logs.
Additional qualifications at the J14.2 level
Experience applying, reviewing, and implementing DOE, Intelligence Community, and sponsor security orders and directives.
Knowledge of SCI facility orders, visit control, and classified operations.
Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, and manage multiple priorities.
Experience supporting complex security requirements across disciplines.
Experience with assessments, audits, inspections, and corrective actions in a regulated environment.
Communication skills for delivering briefings, training, and writing reports.
Broad knowledge of Personnel, Physical, and Information Security and regulatory compliance.
Advanced knowledge of DOE Orders and LLNL security policies.
Experience writing assessments, corrective action plans, policies, and reports.
Knowledge of IC requirements for protecting sources and methods.
Pay Range
$79,920 – $117,312 Annually
$79,920 – $97,848 Annually for the J14.1 level
$95,820 – $117,312 Annually for the J14.2 level
Position Information
This is a Career Indefinite position, open to Lab employees and external candidates.
