University of California San Diego, San Diego, CA, United States
Stem Cell Research Associate – #139445
Department of Neurosciences Center for Neural Repair (CNTR) studies mechanisms of neural repair and regeneration in CNS injury models using a combinatorial approach of stem cell and gene therapies, rehabilitation, and axonal guidance.
Responsibilities
Independently perform routine cell culture (expansion, passaging and freeze/thaw) of various human embryonic stem cell (hESC) cultures.
Differentiation of hESCs into region‑specific neuronal progenitor cells and neurons and characterization of neuronal phenotypes by molecular analysis and immunocytochemistry.
Maintain detailed and accurate records, monitor inventory, and perform related molecular biology procedures.
Apply standard media supplies and maintain primary cell lines.
Accurately keep records of cell lines, source, passage, and genetic manipulations; independently organize, analyze, and interpret data.
Manage time and multitask to meet changing deadlines; prioritize experiments and projects.
Communicate effectively in verbal and written forms with diverse population.
Work independently or within a team, practicing tact, diplomacy, and flexibility.
Adhere to laboratory safety and environmental procedures (EH&S).
Minimum Qualifications
Background in molecular biology or related field, or equivalent education/experience.
Experience with cell cultures; sterile technique; create standard media supplies; maintain primary cell lines.
Accurate record‑keeping of cell lines, source, passage, and genetic manipulations.
Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
Excellent time management, organizational, and multitasking skills.
Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work independently or in a team and with community principles.
Knowledge of EH&S procedures and willingness to adhere to UCSD safety and environmental guidelines.
Willingness to work in an environment with biological and chemical hazards, human embryonic stem cells, animals, and viruses (e.g., adeno‑associated viruses).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with nucleic acid techniques.
Experience with immunocytochemistry techniques.
Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, web‑based programs).
Experience with general lab maintenance, ordering, and maintaining equipment and supplies.
Ability to use image editing and presentation programs.
Special Conditions
Must be able to work varied hours and locations based on business needs.
Work schedule may vary; availability for weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be willing to work with human embryonic stem cells in an animal research environment.
Pay Transparency
Annual Full Pay Range: $65,208 - $104,901 (prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%).
