The Town of Southampton, a Civil Service Employer, is seeking a dynamic, hardworking attorney experienced in municipal law to join its Town Attorney’s Office.
Full‑time position includes a comprehensive benefits package.
Responsibilities
Works closely with the Department of Public Safety, Code Enforcement and the Fire Marshal to prosecute Town Code violations in Southampton Justice Court and New York State Supreme Court when necessary.
Provides legal advice to Town agencies and special committees established by the Town Board; may represent the Town before various boards.
Prepares legal instruments and materials pertaining to litigation involving the Town.
May pursue condemnation actions and negotiate the purchase of private property on behalf of the Town.
Conducts research on subjects pertinent to Town issues pending legislation and court action.
Prepares proposed ordinances and amendments to the Town Charter, local laws, administrative rules, and regulations.
Performs other legal duties as required.
Compensation
Annual salary $90,000 - $105,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
