Position Summary
The Project Cost Accountant works with project managers to ensure accurate invoicing, compliance with contract terms, and timely financial performance tracking.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and process client invoices, including progress billing, time‑and‑materials, and lump‑sum contracts
Partner with project managers to validate billable costs, contract terms, and billing schedules
Track project costs (labor, materials, subcontractors) to ensure alignment with billing and revenue recognition
Manage WIP schedules and support revenue recognition in accordance with contract terms
Resolve billing discrepancies and respond to client inquiries in a timely manner
Prepare monthly cost reports, billing forecasts, and variance analyses
Ensure compliance with contracts, company policies, and accounting standards
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
3+ years of experience in project accounting, preferably in engineering or construction
Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition
Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills preferred
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines across multiple projects
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Education and Experience Requirements
Associate’s degree required or relevant work experience; Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
Experience with a comprehensive accounting system (Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint is a plus)
Physical and Environmental Requirements
This position involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, occasional standing and walking, and occasional lifting of lightweight office supplies (not exceeding 20 pounds). The office environment is indoor, with controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. The employee must have the ability to visually discern details and colors, recognize sound, tone, and pitch, and possess clear verbal and written communication skills. The role requires adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow and the capacity to sit for extended periods.
Expected Hours of Work
ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Work schedules may vary according to project schedule. This is an on‑site position reporting to the ICE office five days a week.
