OVERVIEW
Bayfield School District is seeking a full‑time District Nurse. The District Nurse is responsible for coordinating health services within the district, supervising, hiring, disciplining, and overseeing district health assistants, and ensuring the efficient use of the health services budget.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must hold a current Registered Nurse (RN) license; Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience in school nursing, public health, or related medical field preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience will be evaluated.
Submit fingerprints for a criminal background check.
Completed and submitted BSD online application.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Interview and hire school health assistants, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nurse Assistants, and substitutes.
Manage and evaluate school health assistants, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nurse Assistants, and substitutes.
Collaborate with Medicaid timekeepers to ensure health services staff are complying with district policy related to time worked.
Accurately complete district Medicaid reporting in compliance with all applicable regulations.
Seek, coordinate, develop, and host professional development and regular meetings for health services staff.
Ensure health service providers receive and maintain all required training.
Maintain inventory of required equipment and other resources.
Ensure FERPA/HIPAA confidentiality, and Colorado Open Records Act requirements are met.
Ensure staff receive and maintain all required health trainings (e.g., CPR, bloodborne pathogens).
Recommend expenditures for health services, resources, supplies, materials, and equipment.
Oversee district‑wide vision and hearing screenings and immunization compliance for all students.
Collaborate with colleagues, other departments, and outside agencies for additional vision programs, vaccine clinics, and resources to support student referrals.
Collect and record data related to district vision and hearing screenings and immunization compliance.
Provide resource information for families for access to health care.
Comply with state legal requirements and district and building policies and procedures.
Work collaboratively with staff members and the community.
Commit to the district vision of Each Student, Each Day: Wolverine Way.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EQUIPMENT
Ability to respond effectively to medical emergencies.
Clear and compassionate communication with students, families, and staff.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
Accurate documentation and record‑keeping.
State and federal health regulations affecting schools (including immunization requirements).
Child and adolescent health, growth, and development.
Management of chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, severe allergies).
Medication administration protocols and safety procedures.
Basic medical equipment (thermometers, blood pressure cuffs, pulse oximeters).
First aid supplies and kits.
Glucometers and diabetes management supplies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk and frequently required to walk and must be able to stand up frequently. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to hear the difference between bells, buzzers, beeps, horns, etc. The employee frequently communicates through speech.
The employee must be comfortable functioning in both indoor and outdoor work environments; the employee must be able to drive a vehicle and district equipment.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud.
