Job Summary:
The Electro-Mechanic I works with mechanical and electrical systems on production equipment and maintenance teams. This position is responsible for performing electrical and mechanical installations, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment. The Electro-Mechanic I must have familiarity with Programmable Logic Controlled (PLC) systems. In addition, this position will support overall facility maintenance including basic plumbing, snow removal, event preparation, basic construction, painting, and more. The successful candidate will have a genuine desire to complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently, utilizing good work practices as part of a maintenance team or when working independently with minimal supervision. They will adhere to and promote all safety policies and procedures including proper handling of hazardous waste, lock-out/tag-out rules, and hearing and eye protection policies. Additional responsibilities will include periodic training on proper system and machine operation and maintenance, assistance with creating SOPs and other related documentation, and cross-training into other job functions as needed. This position requires routine attendance at departmental, production, safety, and company meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Mechanical Maintenance
– Corrective and breakdown maintenance of all equipment, repair and maintain machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, manufacturers' specifications or supervisor instructions, using hand and power tools, precision measuring or testing devices. Diagnose machine malfunction, determine need for adjustment or repair, dismantle machine or equipment to examine parts for defect or remove defective part, replace defective part, assemble and test operate machine to verify correction of malfunction, basic fabrication and repair of all necessary equipment.
Preventative and Corrective Maintenance
– Maintain and lubricate machine tools and equipment following preventive maintenance schedule to ensure all machinery is in good, safe working order.
Electrical Maintenance
– Perform testing, diagnostic, maintenance and troubleshooting work on machine tools and systems including NC and CNC controls, PLC hardware and software, control circuits, electro/mechanical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Perform maintenance and repairs on plant power distribution systems. Apply electrical knowledge to research and identify electrical components and parts.
Physical Structures and Grounds
– Maintain and repair physical structures of buildings and grounds, including snow removal, basic plumbing, HVAC, basic carpentry, etc.
Installation and Upgrades
– Install, troubleshoot, and upgrade all equipment. Install conduit, electrical wiring, air/water/hydraulic piping or any additional systems required for proper machine installation with direction from senior technicians, engineering or supervision. Read blueprints, schematic drawings and diagrams to properly and safely install machinery. Assemble and test operate machine to verify safe working order and proper functionality.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Associates Degree in electro-mechanics (or similar) or apprenticeship in electromechanical maintenance or high school diploma/GED with equivalent experience.
3+ years experience and knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and machine shop tools and equipment.
Ability to read and interpret electrical line diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
Basic knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), PLC (Allen Bradley, etc.) and sequential programming devices.
Experience with running conduit, relays, terminations, controls wiring, 120/240/480 volts.
Experience troubleshooting and replacement of electrical components including AC and DC motor drive controls.
Ability to use multimeter, amp meter, oscilloscope and other electrical test tools.
Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Ability to work well with a team as well as independently.
Basic computer skills (email, PM schedules, work orders, etc.).
Ability to work in a stressful environment (loud, dirty, confined spaces, etc.).
Valid PA driver’s license with ability to drive 24,900lb box truck or flat bed with manual or automatic transmission.
Work environment characteristics:
Manufacturing environment with high-pressure air/steam/gas, hazardous fumes, extreme heat, temperature variations, loud noise, exposure to dangerous machinery, dirty work environment and/or dust. Requires PPE including safety glasses, steel-toe/composite boots, earplugs.
Physical and Mental Demands:
Prolonged standing, walking, tool use, repetitive actions with bending, reaching, climbing, stooping, lifting, pounding, pushing/pulling, moving throughout work location to comply with safety requirements.
Exert up to 130 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
Manual dexterity to move material and operate equipment.
Communicate effectively (write, speak) with supervisors and others on performance and safety concerns.
Adequate hearing ability to receive work instruction and respond to changes in work environment.
Attention to detail to complete work assignments.
Time management to comply with scheduled work time and maintain productivity requirements.
Ability to understand and abide by safety policies and maintain a safe work environment.
