The Inpatient Services Manager is responsible for the overall direction of the service line which includes Medical-Surgical, Pediatrics, ICU and IMC. Partnering with the Director of Inpatient and Education Services, the Manager will guide, mentor and maintain a high quality, best practice inpatient service line. This includes, but is not limited to, accountability in fiscal operations, enhancement in quality metrics, department performance improvement plans (PIP), and patient experience, progression of the Shared Governance model, enhanced provider relationships and assistance in service line strategic planning. The Manager will provide leadership and direction for the overall operations of the service line in accordance with current federal, state and organizational standards within the health care setting. The manager will lead by example, and create relationships that are positive and empower others.

Responsibilities of this position include:

Leads and manages the clinical and day-to-day operations of the work of RNs, LPNs, CNAs, HUCs, and related personnel within the department. Coordinates hiring, training, and onboarding of staff, including contract staff; conducts employee performance appraisals.
Works in partnership with the Director of Inpatient and Education Services to strategically plan for various service line opportunities, such as: enhanced quality performance, enhanced patient and staff experience, regulatory guidelines, professional development of staff, impending staffing shortages, healthy work environment, staff retention, recruitment, and turnover, generational differences in the workforces, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and financial sustainability.
Participates in service line provider-based meetings and case reviews; supports healthy provider-nurse relationships. Collaborates with the Hospitalist Director as well as other medical staff to maintain good rapport to effectively manage, analyze data, and maximize opportunities of the service line.
Performs staff, provider, and patient rounding frequently to identify opportunities to enhance safe, quality patient care, improve patient and staff experience metrics, meet department performance improvement plan (PIP), maintain or enhance clinical quality and maintain a culture of safety.
Establishes good rapport and professional working relationship with providers, department leaders, organizational leaders and employees.
Analyzes, reviews, and records patient care concerns and events within FHC's reporting platform (Clarity). Directs and applies problem-solving techniques to brainstorm solutions to resolve these concerns. Involves the appropriate providers, leaders, and/or staff with solutions.
Understands the role of the Inpatient Service Resource RN and RN and is able to function as an RN, as needed.
Takes leadership "on call" to provide support for department.
Maintains awareness of new legislation, regulations (such as Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS standards), and FHC policies affecting operation of the service line. Review and revise policies and procedures to maintain compliance with these laws and regulations.
Prepares, educates, and directs the staff and activities of the service line in the event of emergency situation in order to maintain a culture of safety.
Actively understands, supports and encourages the Nursing Services Shared Governance structure of Fort HealthCare. Participates and supports staff in quality improvement initiatives within the councils and the organization to enhance and improve processes, quality initiatives, and patient experiences.
Guides, mentors, engages, and collaborates with the IPS Coordinators on department quality metrics and initiatives, performance improvement plans, patient and staff experience, safety culture, staff morale, scheduling guidelines, regulatory standard compliance, and maintaining an effective budget.
Delivers feedback and always demonstrates a professional approach, working closely with IPS Leadership team to create a successful and positive environment on the inpatient units and throughout the organization.
Influences and models professional practice and participates in ongoing professional development of the nurse and nurse leader.
Requirements of this position include:

BSN required
Masters degree preferred
5 years of experience as an RN required
2 years experience in managerial and/or program leadership position; Previous management experience specific to service line or hospital nursing leadership preferred
Excellent teaching, interpersonal and communication skills; confident in speaking to groups; clearly communicates instructions, ideas and techniques. Able to communicate exceptionally well with administrative and management team, physicians, nursing staff, patients, and family members. Able to react in a calm, non-defensive, professional manner in any circumstance. Offers positive and efficient support, along with clear directions to team; able to recognize and respond to non-verbal cues and communication.
Advanced education in areas of health care, higher education, or community service recommended
RN license to practice nursing in Wisconsin upon hire; BLS, ACLS, and PALS, maintains all required licenses, certifications or registrations required for this position
