Title: Cloud Database Architect
Location: Westlake, TX or Smithfield, RI(Hybrid)

Rate: 75-85/hr on W2
Ongoing need as part of database modernization efforts. This is the highest technology priority project at Fidelity right now. As the Data Architect for Brokerage Recordkeeping Technology, you will lead the design and implementation of scalable, cloud-based data architectures supporting Fidelity's Brokerage Recordkeeping Applications. You'll collaborate with development teams, solution architects, and enterprise leaders to standardize solutions, drive modernization, and align technology with business goals. Data plays a large part of Fidelity's modernization efforts. Data gets stored, transmitted, and processed in huge amounts. 3-4 millions trade per day. Number of users and applications is gigantic.
Must have:
• Large volume of data (50TB), large volumes of transactions per second.(millions), response time in the millisecond
• Financial services (could possibly come from credit card industry, or huge commercial like meta or Amazon)
• Knowledge of mainframe
• Moving mainframe to a cloud data platform (installations and deployments)
• Worked with transactional databases (Oracle is a must, plus 1 of these: InMemory, NoSQL, distributed SQL- CockroachDB) • Data integration tools: Kafka (and movement of data into AWS S3 to Oracle, etc)
• OLTP Data modeling (physical and logical modeling)
Nice to have: Datawarehouse technologies in Snowflake, Iceberg
The Role
As the Data Architect for Brokerage Recordkeeping Technology, you will lead the design and implementation of scalable, cloud-based data architectures supporting Fidelity's Brokerage Recordkeeping Applications. You'll collaborate with development teams, solution architects, and enterprise leaders to standardize solutions, drive modernization, and align technology with business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Define and promote data architecture strategies, patterns, standards, and guidelines.
Provide technical leadership across complex projects and initiatives.
Guide the adoption of cloud-native data solutions and data integration patterns.
Champion data-driven decision-making and reusable patterns, standards and guidelines.
Lead Proof of Concepts (POCs) to evaluate emerging technologies.
Ensure compliance with data privacy, security, and regulatory standards.
Support mainframe migration and modernization efforts.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
12+ years of experience in distributed systems, including 3+ years with cloud databases.
Experience in financial services domain. Understanding / Experience with the brokerage domain would be a plus.
Skills & Competencies
Expertise in relational (Oracle, PostgreSQL), distributed SQL (CockroachDB, YugabyteDB), NoSQL (Aerospike), in-memory databases, data warehouses (Snowflake, Apache Iceberg) and Kafka streaming.
Proven ability to architect high-volume, high-performance transactional systems.
Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS RDS, EC2, EMR, S3) and hybrid environments.
Experience building scalable data solutions (OLTP, ODS, MDM, data warehousing & analytics platforms).
Experience with data Security and data and functional authorization methods
Ability to evaluate and recommend emerging cloud data technologies.
Hands-on experience in logical and physical data modeling
