Signal Inspector – West Columbia
We are seeking a detail‑oriented Signal Inspector to oversee signal installation and related concrete work on active construction sites. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with safety standards, project specifications, and South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) regulations while maintaining clear communication with the construction crew and client representatives.

Responsibilities

Inspect and monitor signal installation and miscellaneous concrete work, ensuring compliance with safety plans, specifications, and contract requirements.

Provide daily observations of construction activities, documenting them in required reports and forms.

Quantify and record the amounts of all materials installed during the project.

Enforce SCDOT standards for all materials, procedures, and safety protocols.

Conduct material sampling and testing to confirm that construction materials meet quality specifications.

Maintain effective communication with colleagues and client representatives, fostering productive working relationships.

Adapt schedules as needed, including working night shifts to align with the contractor’s timeline.

Demonstrate diplomacy and composure in difficult and stressful situations.

Qualifications

Strong math calculation skills and proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and, in some instances, up to 80 pounds.

Legal authorization to work in the United States.

For fleet drivers: valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.

Completion of a pre‑employment screening; ICE is a drug‑free workplace.

Education & Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent; technical college coursework in engineering preferred.

Desired certifications: IMSA Signal Inspector or Technician, ACI Concrete, and SCDOT Concrete Level 1 & 2.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
The role involves moderate physical activity (walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs or ladders). Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Visual discrimination of details, colors, and the ability to recognize sound, tone, and pitch are required. Working conditions can be hot, cold, and noisy, with occasional night and weekend shifts and exposure to active traffic.

Expected Hours of Work
ICE offices are open 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work schedules may vary according to project needs and may include night and weekend work.
