CEI Mid‑Level to Senior Level Inspector – West Columbia, SC

Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is seeking a CEI Mid‑Level to Senior Level Inspector to support transportation projects for the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). The inspector will monitor contractor work, ensure compliance with contract specifications and quality standards, and may provide project‑management support under the direction of a Project Manager. This position qualifies for a $3,000 sign‑on bonus.

Responsibilities

Provide daily observation of construction activities and document activities on required reports/forms.

Review construction materials for contract and specification compliance.

Inspect roadways and structures for conformance to plans and specifications.

Evaluate structural materials, placement of culverts, and related operations such as foundation excavation.

Monitor placement of pilings, reinforcement and structural steel, concrete, and backfill.

Verify lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using survey and field engineering equipment.

Perform accurate calculations and computations.

Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet the quality requirements of the project specifications.

Review contractor submittals for conformance to project documents and specifications.

Document and immediately report any non‑compliance actions and safety violations to your immediate supervisor.

Record Daily Work Reports to include quantities in Site Manager and for American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) projects.

Qualifications

Above average math and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer skills.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.

Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Current driver’s license with a safe driving record; ICE is a drug‑free workplace.

Education and Experience Requirements

HS diploma required or equivalent.

Associate or BS in Civil Engineering is a plus.

Roadway and bridge inspection experience required.

Experience working on SCDOT projects.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.

Certifications and Training Requirements
CEI provides training for inspectors to obtain the following certifications required to comply with SCDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM standards.

Mid‑Level Inspector – Experience and Certification Requirements

Minimum of five years of inspection experience.

Two of the following certifications are required:

SCDOT Asphalt Roadway Technician

SCDOT Earthwork Drainage & Base Technician

SCDOT Concrete Level 1 and Level 2

ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade 1

Senior‑Level Inspector – Experience and Certification Requirements

Minimum of ten years of inspection experience.

The following certifications are required:

SCDOT Asphalt Roadway Technician

SCDOT Earthwork Drainage & Base Technician

SCDOT Concrete Level 1 and Level 2

ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade 1

Foundations Technician

Nuclear Gauge Safety Training

Hazmat

Physical Demands
Minimum lifting of up to 50 pounds, sometimes frequently. Must travel and tour work sites under adverse environmental conditions, including loud noise, high dust, extreme temperature, uneven terrain, and highway traffic. Must be able to visually examine construction materials and finished structures in varying weather and field conditions.

Expected Hours of Work
Full‑time (40 hours per week). Office hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one unpaid hour for lunch each day. Overtime may be required for project deadlines, compensated per company policy. Flexible schedules may be available with prior approval.

Salary ranges are general guidelines and vary based on education, experience, skills, certifications, and market trends. Compensation will be discussed during the hiring process to reflect the candidate’s qualifications and contributions.
