About the Role
Employment type:

Permanent, full‑time, 1‑year contract renewal cycle.

Salary:

$65,000 to $85,000 per annum (dependent on experience).

Start date:

1 September 2026, with an expectation to attend orientation during the final week of August.

York Preparatory School seeks a dedicated Learning Specialist to join our Jump Start academic support program for the 2026–2027 school year. The Learning Specialist will work with a small caseload of students, collaborating closely with classroom teachers, administrators, parents and outside professionals to create an optimal learning environment. The program’s goals are to help students build self‑awareness, develop academic skills and strategies, strengthen executive functioning, and gain confidence and motivation to succeed.

Responsibilities

Deliver targeted, individualized instruction to middle and high school students within the Jump Start program.

Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, parents and external specialists to develop and implement individualized learning plans.

Monitor student progress, adjust instructional strategies, and provide timely feedback to support academic growth.

Facilitate professional development and support for teachers on literacy, instructional strategies and student engagement.

Maintain accurate records of student assessments, interventions and progress reports.

Participate in program evaluation and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

Degree in Special Education, Literacy, Education or a related field (master’s degree preferred).

State certification (preferred).

Two or more years of experience working with middle and/or high school students as a learning specialist, classroom teacher or resource teacher.

Strong communication, collaboration and organizational skills.

Familiarity with Judith Hochman’s Writing Revolution is an advantage.
