The Mechanic Heavy Equipment (Traveling) position maintains and repairs critical machinery across various locations, ensuring operational efficiency and safety by minimizing equipment downtime.

Pay rate $9,075.24/mo (approx. annual $104,714–$136,000)

Responsibilities

Maintain and repair the fleet of equipment operated by BNSF.

Disassemble, repair, modify, manufacture, overhaul, and troubleshoot roadway maintenance equipment, including hydraulic, pneumatic, and fuel systems, driveline components, and drive systems.

Operate equipment and use a variety of manual, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools, welders, and cutting torches to perform and verify necessary maintenance and repairs.

Work in a safety‑sensitive environment with diverse and extreme weather conditions, uneven surfaces, loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.

Adhere to safety regulations, rules, and policies, including wearing safety equipment and responding to emergencies.

Qualifications

Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance in obtaining employment authorization.

21 years of age or older.

Must be able to work safely in the above working conditions.

Must be able to work the above shift/hours.

Must be able to meet the above travel requirements.

Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs occasionally.

Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License required, Class A upon requirement.

Must be able to visually distinguish colors and differentiate between verbal and non‑verbal sounds.

Two years minimum verifiable mechanical work experience or training.

One year minimum verifiable training/experience with gasoline and diesel engines on large industrial equipment.

Three months minimum verifiable training/experience with electrical and/or gas welding.

One year minimum verifiable training/experience with electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagrams and schematics.

Can use hands and hand tools for holding, grasping, turning, and pulling.

Can climb ladders, get on/off equipment, and work from various heights.

Can bend, lift, walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.
