Sunstall Inc., Louisville, KY, United States
Mechanic
Department: Warehouse / Fleet
Reports To: Dir. of Purchasing & Warehouse Mgmt.
About the Role
American Roofing & Metal Co. is looking for a skilled Mechanic to keep our construction equipment fleet operational and production-ready. Equipment downtime is lost revenue — this role is critical to maintaining the uptime our field crews depend on every day. You'll be measured on turnaround speed, preventative maintenance adherence, and fleet availability.
What You'll Do
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues across generators, welders, blowers, compressors, boom trucks, trailers, and other construction equipment
Perform minor and major repairs; replace parts and restore equipment to full functionality
Maintain accurate repair records: date, issue, parts used, labor time, and status
Coordinate outside service for repairs beyond in-house capability
Welding & Fabrication
Perform structural and component welding on equipment, tools, and custom fixtures
Fabricate metal components and attachments to improve equipment performance
Inspect all welds and fabrication work for structural integrity and safety compliance
Preventative Maintenance
Own and execute the preventative maintenance calendar: oil changes, filter replacements, system checks
Prioritize PM work based on production needs and equipment utilization
Track equipment performance trends; identify issues proactively before they cause field breakdowns
Maintain fleet DOT compliance in coordination with the Safety department
Parts Inventory & Logistics
Manage parts, tools, and welding materials inventory; reorder before stock-outs cause delays
Coordinate with Warehouse and field crews to ensure equipment is dispatched in operational condition
Verify equipment readiness before dispatch; tag and quarantine any unit needing repair
Safety & Shop Management
Adhere to all safety regulations when performing repairs, welding, and equipment operation
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free shop environment
Conduct regular safety audits of the shop area
Ensure all repaired equipment meets safety and compliance standards before returning to service
What We’re Looking For
3+ years of experience as a mechanic working on construction or heavy equipment
Proficiency in welding (MIG, TIG, and/or stick) and metal fabrication
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across diesel and gas-powered equipment
Working knowledge of DOT vehicle compliance and inspection requirements
Ability to maintain organized repair records and parts inventory
Valid driver's license; CDL a plus
Self-directed with the ability to prioritize competing demands from multiple field crews
What We Offer
Competitive pay based on experience
Health, dental, and vision insurance
401(k) with company match
Paid time off and holidays
Stable, year-round work with a growing company
