Job Description
Overview
The Surgical Assistant (SA) works under the direct supervision of the surgeon, maintaining clinical competence in pre-operative assessment and intraoperative proficiency. The SA should demonstrate knowledge in surgical anatomy and physiology, operative techniques, and principles of asepsis and infection control.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM, with call/lates and weekend requirements.
Shifts per week: 3. Scheduled hours: 36 hours per week.
Responsibilities
Assist effectively in all surgical specialties.
Participate in room turnover and demonstrate proper positioning, draping, and prepping procedures.
Contribute to reducing surgical supply expenses by minimizing waste.
Adhere to AORN Standards and Recommended Practices for Infection Prevention.
Actively engage in the "Time Out" procedure on all surgical cases prior to incision, utilizing the Universal Protocol.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
Graduate of an accredited program in Physician Assistant/Surgical Assistant or International Medical Graduate.
At least three (3) years of previous experience as a Surgical Assistant (SA).
CPR certification required (BLS AHA).
