Description

The Staff System Safety Engineer (SSE) is responsible for ensuring that the products developed at LMMFC and sold to the customer are safe for the warfighter to use. A successful candidate will employ safety analysis techniques performed on the end item and its subsystems. The primary job responsibility is performing hazard analysis in accordance with MIL‑STD‑882 and contractual requirements. The Staff SSE analyzes and recommends safety features and controls for system design, software, training and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards. The Staff SSE also performs and supports the development of safety documentation to satisfy customer and contractual requirements. The candidate works with systems and software engineering on architecture definition, use cases and generates software safety analyses in accordance with government guidelines. Expectations are that the Staff SSE can work independently with minimal oversight, based on professional experience and educational background, while helping mentor and train early‑career SSEs in the System Safety discipline.
What You Will Be Doing

Support the program by developing hazard analyses, software safety assessments, hazardous material management planning and execution.
Analyze and recommend safety criteria in system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards.
Prepare and deliver presentations at technical reviews and customer briefings.
Flow down system safety requirements to suppliers and verify design implementation.
Assist in requirements development and verification.
Review specifications, technical documentation, and design changes for impacts to system safety.
Support customer and test/operational range requirements.
Participate in the development of testing activities to ensure safety requirements are satisfied.
Prepare technical documentation and presentation material to support various independent safety board meetings to gain approval on system design.
Participate in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assist in identification of causes and corrective actions.
Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in an engineering discipline.
Experience developing and implementing a System Safety Program in accordance with MIL‑STD‑882.
Experience developing and evaluating system safety requirements.
Familiarity with implementing a Software Safety Program in accordance with AOP‑52 and DoD guidelines.
Proficient knowledge of MIL‑STD‑882 and its associated analyses.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to make formal presentations to large groups.
Ability to interact well in a team atmosphere with engineers, suppliers, program managers and customers.
Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Desired Skills

Experience supporting independent government Safety Review Boards.
Knowledge of Human Factors Engineering.
Familiarity with missile and launcher systems.
Secret clearance with current 6‑year background check.
Model‑based engineering knowledge.
Experience with DOORS requirements application.
Candidate is a self‑starter capable of performing tasks with little direction.
Effective analytical problem‑solving skills, the ability to perform detail‑oriented work with a high degree of accuracy.
Ability to learn and work with System Safety specific software tools.
Security Clearance Statement

This position requires a government security clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Location: Orlando, Florida.
Work arrangement: Remote telework possible with on‑site work at a Lockheed Martin facility.
