Performing installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment for the generation, distribution or utilization of electric energy (lighting, generators, transformers, switchboards, motor controllers, circuit breakers, 440v/460hz power load centers, ABT/MBT's, Power Panels, heating units, and conduit systems)

Working from blueprints or Ships Installation drawings (SIDs) to install/troubleshoot electrical systems
Working from computations of working standards relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment
Following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications
Using hand tools, power tools, and electrical test equipment
Planning layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on applicable specifications and standards
Connecting wires to circuit breakers, transformers, MBT/ABT's, power panels, and shipboard electrical load centers, or other electrical components
Testing electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devises, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, to ensure compatibility and safety of system
Using a variety of tools or equipment such as measuring devices, and testing equipment such as ammeters, voltmeters, or test lamps
Inspecting electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, to ensure compliance with standards
Preparing sketches or following blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to safety codes
Working from ladders or scaffolds to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures
Planning the layout of wiring, and installing wiring, conduit, and electrical components onboard Navy vessels IAW wiring diagrams

Requirements

High school diploma or GED and four+ years work-related experience
Electrical experience as a Navy Electrician's Mate (appropriate A/C schools) or within various marine fields
Must pass employer performance tests and IAW standard governmental agencies certifications
Must maintain Association of Boards of Certifications (ABC), International Maritime Certification Institute (IMCI), or American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) certification; or have completed the equivalent Maritime Apprenticeship Training in the shipboard electrical field and have held the applicable certifications
Must be able to read Ship's Installation Drawings (SIDs) and work from standard and metric specifications
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
Must be able to apply the craft, vocational or administrative skills, and methods taught in specialized training and or learned through formal apprenticeships; other important skills include manual skills
May be required to hold electrician's license

We are seeking a skilled and certified Electrician to join our heavy equipment manufacturing team. This role will focus on the electrical installation and testing of advanced control systems, including controllers, sensors, displays, wire cables, and harnesses. The ideal candidate will be adept at both precision installation and troubleshooting to ensure reliable operation of control systems in complex heavy equipment assemblies.

Electrical Installation

Install electrical control systems, including programmable controllers, operator displays, sensors, actuators, and harnesses, according to engineering specifications and schematics.

Route and terminate wiring harnesses and cable assemblies with attention to proper shielding, sealing, and mechanical protection in a heavy equipment environment.

Ensure correct electrical connections, grounding, and system integration with hydraulic, mechanical, and electronic subsystems.

Apply appropriate torque, sealing, and fastener practices to ensure system reliability in demanding operating environments.

Programming of programmable controllers and other field devices.

Testing and Troubleshooting

Conduct functional and continuity testing on installed electrical systems to confirm compliance with design standards.

Diagnose and resolve issues encountered during installation or initial testing, including wiring errors, communication faults, signal loss, or grounding problems.

Use diagnostic tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, CAN bus analyzers, or proprietary controller software) to identify and correct faults.

Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to validate system performance and address nonconformities.

Documentation and Compliance

Read, interpret, and apply electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness prints, and control system layouts.

Accurately record test results, corrective actions, and installation notes in production documentation systems.

Follow all OSHA, NEC, and company safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and safe handling of energized circuits.

Ensure compliance with quality standards and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
Education/Certification

Licensed or certified Electrician (Journeyman or Master Electrician preferred).

Additional training in industrial electronics, automation, or mechatronics is a plus.

Experience

3+ years of experience in electrical installation or troubleshooting in industrial, automotive, aerospace, or heavy equipment manufacturing environments.

Hands‑on experience with wire harness routing, electrical panels, and control systems integration.

Technical Skills

Proficiency with electrical diagnostic tools (multimeters, continuity testers, oscilloscopes).

Familiarity with PLCs, CAN bus communication, Ethernet communications, various field communications protocols and electronic display systems.

Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

Manufacturing Environment
Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection. Duties

Troubleshoots and repairs manufacturing equipment such as motors, transformers, generators, and electronic controllers. Installs new electrical equipment and components as needed. Follows diagrams, sketches, manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications as necessary.

Removes, fixes, and installs circuit breakers, fuses, switches, electrical and electronic components, and/or wire. Works with engineers, engineering technicians, or industrial machinery installation, repair, and maintenance workers as needed.

Possesses working knowledge of 110v, 220v and 440v circuits, AC/DC voltage, and electrical/mechanical equipment.

Engages in preventive maintenance activities with equipment and facility. This includes inspecting equipment, identifying problems, and correcting faults before breakdowns occur.

Provides training to Junior Electrician and/or trainee. Functions as a mentor to impart knowledge for diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of facility electrical equipment and systems.

Advises management of any potential hazards involving the facility or equipment. Recommends corrective action.

Utilizes hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, knives, and hacksaws. Also uses power tools and testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, amp meters, and test lamps.

Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories. Checks stock to determine inventory level. Anticipates needed equipment, parts, and supplies. Places and expedites orders.

Maintains and performs periodic calibration program for plant instrumentation.
