Job Description
The Counselor – High School supports the instructional process by implementing the ASCA National Standards for Students assigned to the School. The role includes managing schedules, placement of students, providing curriculum and academic information, and assisting in goal and achievement plan development.
This position reports to the Site Administrator.
Essence Functions
Analyzes transcripts to ensure compliance with graduation requirements.
Assists students with developing Educational and Career Action Plans to support high school and post‑high school goals.
Provides assistance with financial aid, college applications, scholarships, and online registration to help secure post‑graduation academic and vocational opportunities.
Collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.g., colleges, middle schools, site staff) to implement and maintain services and programs.
Coordinates with teachers, higher‑education staff, resource specialists, and community partners to gather and recommend information.
Conducts counseling for students, parents, and guardians (Crisis, Social‑Emotional, Academic, NCAA advisement, Mid‑Year graduation).
Develops and oversees special programs and activities such as College Night, Peer Tutoring, PVCC Day, Senior Awards Night, Freshman Orientation, and Financial Aid Night.
Monitors student progress in classroom academics, PVOnline courses, and dual enrollment to identify issues and take action to improve success.
Participates in meetings (IEP, RED, MET, 504) to convey and gather required information.
Prepares materials (correspondence, financial and scholarship information, new‑student packets, surveys, newsletters) to document activities and provide information.
Presents information (Career Readiness, Career Exploration, Scholarships, AVID, PVOnline) to communicate and receive feedback.
Proctors standardized assessments and exams (AIMS, PSAT, PLAN, ASVAB, AP exams) to maintain exam integrity.
Reports health and safety concerns (e.g., fights, suspected abuse, inappropriate behaviors) to the assigned administrator and appropriate agencies.
Researches program eligibility requirements (e.g., financial aid, college eligibility) to provide up‑to‑date, accurate counseling.
Responds to inquiries from staff, parents, students, visitors, and public agencies to facilitate communication.
Schedules student classes to ensure proper placement and graduation/college eligibility.
Supervises assigned programs (e.g., Peer Mediation, Teen AA, Peer Tutoring) to monitor performance and achieve curriculum objectives.
Other Functions
Performs additional duties as assigned to support the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Work Environment
The position requires some lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling, and fine finger dexterity. Physical demands include 30% sitting, 10% walking, and 60% standing. Minimal temperature variations are expected.
Experience
Job‑related experience is desired.
Education
Master's degree in a related area.
Required Testing, Certificates, and Licenses
Arizona Department of Education Counseling Certificate.
Continuing Education, Training, and Clearances
Criminal Background Clearance.
Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
