Position Summary
University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), a component of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, seeks a Department Nurse Manager for the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, NJ. The role involves supervising nurses across shifts on assigned unit(s), collaborating with physicians and interdepartmental staff, maintaining nursing standards, and delivering quality care to inmates and families.
Responsibilities
Assist in interpreting and translating nursing theory into services for adult (18‑64) and geriatric (65+) inmates.
Participate in structuring organized nursing services.
Implement nursing functions within the UCHC context.
Use information systems to retrieve, implement, and retain essential records and services.
Direct and supervise nursing and health‑care services.
Ensure cost‑effective use of resources and assist in budget preparation.
Assist with orientation and development of staff and nursing students.
Lead quality assurance and improvement activities; provide training to staff and correctional officers.
Participate in decision‑making for organized nursing services.
Qualifications
Graduation from a state‑accredited nursing school.
Minimum of two (2) years progressively responsible nursing experience.
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Preferred: One (1) year in a specialty nursing service.
Certificates & Licenses
Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of New Jersey.
CPR certification.
Valid driver’s license.
Salary and Benefits
Salary range: Minimum $104,118; Mid $131,736; Maximum $159,354.
