Summary
This is an entry‑level position within the Engineering Technologist staff. The purpose of this role is to apply technical skills to accurately evaluate options and design safe, cost‑effective, and reliable facilities for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Incumbents are expected to demonstrate a basic understanding of client and customer design workflows, procedures, data entry, and technical skills within the client’s specific areas of expertise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
With the support of direct supervision and mentoring, the incumbent is responsible for the following:

Learn, practice, and promote all safety policies and procedures at all times

Apply applicable codes, requirements, regulations, policies, and procedures to assigned work

Develop skills to safely perform job‑site visits and interact with construction personnel

Learn and demonstrate proficiency with company and client design software and work management tools

Prepare project and job packages, including material lists, requisitions, labor estimates, site drawings, and construction drawings in a cost‑effective manner that maximizes safety and service reliability

Develop skills to accurately evaluate loading on distribution equipment such as transformers and fusing

Learn utility construction practices for public right‑of‑way (ROW) and private land

Communicate job status regularly to ensure client expectations and deliverable dates are met

Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external customers while supporting company and client business goals

Maintain organized project files and records

Receive mentoring from experienced personnel, supervision, management, and Professional Engineers

Perform other duties as assigned by management

Position requires exchange of information and may occasionally require tact and diplomacy.

Education and/or Experience
Education

Required: High school diploma or GED

Preferred: Associate degree from a two‑year college or technical school

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university in non‑engineering science, math, or business

Note: Certain client projects or contractual requirements may require an Associate or Bachelor’s degree.

Experience

0–1 year of experience in power distribution engineering, electrical craft work, or GIS/CAD‑related work

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

None required

On‑the‑Job Training
Training includes a combination of job shadowing, classroom instruction, and interaction with experienced employees during the first year.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret procedure manuals and operational documentation

Ability to write simple correspondence

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or the business community

Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform basic arithmetic using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals

Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and interpret spreadsheets

Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uncomplicated instructions

Ability to handle standardized situations with limited variables

Ability to participate in storm restoration activities as needed (e.g., Driver, Wire Down Sitter, Clerk)
