Technical depth : Solve complex distributed systems challenges involving petabyte‑scale storage, automated healing, and intelligent resource management

Innovation focus : Help build the modern, cost‑efficient foundational platform that enables Aurora’s next wave of capabilities

Growth environment : Work alongside experienced engineers including Sr. SDEs and Principal Engineers who invest in your technical development

Ownership culture : Drive projects from design to deployment with autonomy and support

Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer II on the Aurora Storage Fabric team, you will design, develop, and maintain critical infrastructure systems. You’ll own end‑to‑end delivery of distributed systems components, write high‑quality scalable code, conduct code reviews, and ensure system reliability. Working closely with senior and principal engineers, you’ll architect solutions for petabyte‑scale storage challenges while balancing immediate operational needs with long‑term platform goals. You’ll drive projects from conception through deployment, make data‑driven decisions using metrics and monitoring, and contribute to the team’s technical roadmap by identifying innovation opportunities. This role requires strong ownership, mentoring junior engineers, and continuously improving the reliability and efficiency of Aurora’s foundational storage platform.

A day in the life
Day‑to‑day, you’ll collaborate with the Aurora Storage Fabric team and partner with other Aurora Storage teams to ensure seamless integration of foundational services, solving problems. You’ll write and review code, analyze system metrics to identify performance bottlenecks, participate in design discussions for petabyte‑scale solutions, and during on‑call rotations respond to operational issues while conducting root‑cause analyses to improve system resilience. You’ll engage with stakeholders across Aurora teams to gather requirements, prioritize features enabling next‑generation database innovations, and maintain Aurora’s industry‑leading availability commitments.
